Krayus Montaren
Dossier: The Phantom
- Expert marksman
- Skilled technician
First serving as a footsoldier in the Turian military, Montaren was assigned to a Reconnaissance Platoon, earning his stripes as a marksman. After he turned 23, the Turian became an officer of C-Sec on the Citadel. He received attention for his role in the diffusion of a hostage situation. He snuck into the building where the hostages were being held and pacified the terrorists from a balcony, allowing C-Sec officers to move in and secure the civilians. Because of this, he was taken onto the Corsair project as a marksman, and prides himself on his ability to remain undetected.

Distinguishing Features: The Turian's skin is a shade of slate gray, flecked with darker shades around the jawline and neck. His face tattoos are a dark blue and sweep up along his upper face and the crown of his head. His eyes are a soft gray, but can be piercing as those of a predatory bird in some situations. The only notable scars on his body are a thin, vertical knife scar above his left eye and a burn scar on his right shoulder.
Psychological Profile: Krayus Montaren is a friendly man, confident in his abilities. He tries, often in vain, to get along with everyone he meets. He hates conflict, which is odd for a soldier of his history, but combat is a different story. In the field, he is silent and precise but stubborn. If he wants something done, or is given something to do, he will get it done. End of story. This often affects him negatively in social situations, as he is slow to compromise. His parents played a part in the First Contact War, but Krayus himself never held any sort of grudge against humans. Come to think of it, he doesn't particularly hate Krogan either. Krayus was never one to uphold social stereotypes; he gives every individual a chance to make their personalities known before coming to any personal conclusions about them. Some may say this makes him a bit naïve, and who knows? Maybe he is, but he makes no effort to change. He is what he is.

Background:Krayus Montaren was the second child born to a pair of NCOs on Oma Ker. From early childhood, he was raised like a soldier. Discipline, honor, duty to the Hierarchy. These were all pounded into his head since he could walk. His parents joined the Reserves shortly after he turned four. He had a sister, three years his elder, and the two competed endlessly. When Krayus' sister turned 15 and enlisted, he was jealous, and redoubled his efforts in anticipation for the time when he could join the military.
When the time came for Krayus to enlist, he did so with the excitement of a young man starting a -hopefully- long and successful military career. After boot camp, he was assigned to the Seventh Fleet as a Reconnaissance operator. He favored long-range engagements, and was a crack shot, so he soon became the designated marksman in his platoon. During his stint with the fleet, Krayus saw the Turian homeworld of Palaven for the first time, but not the last. At the age of 23, Krayus took examinations to join Citadel Security, and became a C-Sec officer shortly after. (It is about this time that Krayus
Krayus served loyally in C-Sec for almost four years (Present for the Battle of the Citadel), earning a number of scars in the process. Near the end of his career in C-Sec, Krayus played a pivotal role in a hostage rescue in one of the lower levels of the Citadel as the station was under repair from the recent battle. Four Batarian terrorists had taken seven prisoners and holed up in an abandoned warehouse, refusing to release their prisoners until their demands were met. With the permission of his CO, Montaren entered the warehouse ahead of the strike team, bypassing rudimentary security systems that the terrorists had set up and sneaking around to the back of the building. He gained an elevated position in one of the catwalks and opened fire, neutralizing three of the hostiles. The fourth attempted to escape and was taken into custody by C-Sec officers for questioning.
It was this episode that brought Montaren to the attention of the Corsair program. He was invited to join the incident response program and after giving it a bit of thought, he decided that the best way he could protect people was through the direct and independent action available to Corsair agents. At the present, Krayus has been with Corsair for just under four months, and has undertaken just as many missions across the galaxy.
RP Sample: The Turian polarized his helmet's visor as harsh sunlight began to obstruct his view. The world blackened and slowly brightened to a tolerable level as his eyes adjusted.
“Kiro, elevation and distance please,” he mumbled, sighting down his rifle's scope. At the other end were a trio of Geth, standing guard around their camp. Geth camps stumped Krayus. They consisted, as far as he could tell, of a pile of crates, likely holding weapons, light transport vehicles. and data towers, likely holding other disembodied Geth collectives. Other than that, the site was barren.
”Elevation: Seven meters downhill,” replied a polite Turian voice. “Distance: One hundred thirteen meters.
“Wind speed?”
”Less than half a kilometer per hour. East by southeast. Shouldn't have to compensate at this distance.”
“Thank you, Kiro,” The Turian said with a wry grin. They both knew that the VI didn't need to add that last bit, but he was obligated to suggest a course of action because of his programming. He steadied his breathing, watching the three sentries. He made sure to set his rifle for Armor-Piercing rounds. Better to punch through the Geths' armored bodies.
He fired three times in quick succession, watching the Geth platforms drop. Only the final Geth had been able to raise its rifle before his bullet tore through its midsection, deactivating it.
“Targets down, move up,” The Turian said over the comms.
“Copy,” he heard in reply. He rose slowly, activating his Tactical Cloak before making his way down to regroup with the fireteam...
Future Plans: I would like to see Krayus get involved with other members of Corsair; make a few friends, maybe a rival or two. All he wants to do with his life is protect people and make his family proud. Being a soldier is the best way he knows how to do that.
I'm not completely averse to him dying in the future, but knowing he's a Turian, I'd like it to maybe be sacrificing himself for a friend or maybe the mission. He can get wounded as much as needed though. Scars add character.
Face Claim and/or Voice Actor Claim: This is optional but if you do use it make sure your face and voice aren't already taken.
